It leaves behind devastated landscapes. Hurricane Melissa, "one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic," struck Jamaica head-on on Tuesday, with winds of nearly 300km/h according to the US National Hurricane Center.
The hurricane, initially a category 5 , the highest on the Saffir-Simpson scale, was then downgraded to category 4 on Tuesday evening. Downgraded to category 3, it made landfall in Cuba on Wednesday morning.
